Monday Update - A day with Denise - Making Vino!

Ceil is up and doing fine this morning.  Denise was here at 8:30 to get Ceil so that she can spend the day at her house.  They have a nice day planned, but I'll let Denise tell you how things went, as she will be writing the blog again today. Below are the great pictures Denise took today.
Denise write:
"Mom and I had a pretty busy morning today. As I needed help with my current wine making projects she was quickly promoted to wine making assistant, a job that she handled well. We started the morning by finishing up the pear and generic red wine I had started yesterday. Mom added the pectic enzyme to both wines and gave them a good string. We checked the sugar content and the temperature and decided all readings looked good. We discussed wine yeasts and came up with the two best suited yeasts for each wine. Our next job was to bottle the peach wine which was started last August. Mom's job, usually mine when Bill is helping, was to say "whoa" when the siphoned wine came close to the top of the bottle. The next step in the process was for us to count to thirty as we sterilized the corks in the pot of simmering water on the stove. Mom thought this was humorous, but joined in as she saw that this was an important part of the process. Next was the corking. Mom held the bottles while I drove the corks home so to speak. When the job was completed we had 13 bottles of very nice dry peach wine ready for the cellar. Mom let me know she needed a little rest after all this activity and took a short nap in grandma Agnes's old gold chair. After a nice lunch of steak sandwiches and salad it was time for both of us to nap. Thanks mom for all your help. You are now my permanent assistant though next time I may need your help with my next potential hobby, soap making." Denise

I'll stick with milk!

We had a great day!

The fun continued, as Doug took Ceil to the Paramount for a Municipal Band concert.  Ceil had so much fun with Doug, listening to the music and seeing some old fiends.  Many thanks to Doug for showing Ceil a great time tonight.

The old safe

Beautiful evening to be out.

  1. Mom making wine? What has the world come to? No wonder Mom looks so happy in that last picture. What's next? Is Mom going to start growing grapes at her house so she can start making her own wine? Maybe crab apple wine from the crab apple tree? Rhubarb wine? Grape/crab apple/rhubarb wine to enter into the Benton County fair? I bet Mom's wine beats Denise's wine!!!!

Be sure to read my comments for Saturday and Sunday, too.
